SHE WAS GOOD AT TENNIS
Anna Kournikova is a retired tennis professional player who managed to become famous on the back of the looks as opposed to her tennis ability. She is known the world over as a tennis player, even though she never won a single WTA singles title!
It is not true to say that Kournikova never performed as such – indeed at one stage she reached the heady heights of World number 8 in 2000, whilst with partner Martina Hingis she actually won over 10 Grand slam titles in doubles. She and Martina became known as the Spice Girls in the tennis circuit due to their beautiful looks.
She won the European Champion and the Italian Open Junior Tournament when she was only 14 years of age. At the age of 18 she was crowned the ITF World Championship U-18. Kournikova went on to play the 1995 Wimbledon Girls Championship in both singles and double.
In 1997, she entered the 1997 Australian Open when she was ranked number 67, but sadly went out in the third round. Almost the same story happened in the 1997 U.S Open when she lost in the second round to Irinia Spirlea. Anna Kournikova came a long way to reach success and stardom and struggled to get her way through.
Even though she was never at the top of the tennis betting odds, she had a good run in some tournaments, and was a crowd favourite.
